Me, blogging. Captured by oh boy!-Caro at the St. Oberholz of Mannheim – Karl-Otto-Café
This is my blog or let´s call it visual diary. My attempt to stay in touch with customers and friends off the beaten track known as social media. I have set myself the goal of publishing one post per month.
Das ist mein Blog oder besser Visual Diary. Mein Versuch mit, Kund*innen und Freund*innen abseits von Social Media in Verbringung zu bleiben. Ich habe mir vorgenommen, einen Post pro Monat hinzubekommen.

First of all: I was very curious as to whether it was “even worth it” to start a blog. And I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I had more reach with one blog post than with some Insta activities. (Which is absurd, because I don’t (yet 🤓) have any organic reach and only advertise via social media …)
Quite apart from that, it’s more fun for me to publish something here. It just feels better, more self-sufficient, more secure.
With a few exceptions, I no longer have the Instagram app on my phone. I still check my account via the browser, not least when I’m doing something for clients on social media. But I stay away from that. And I was shocked at how crazy the platform felt to me when I briefly used the app two weeks later. I felt confirmed: I don’t want to spend my time and energy on this shit show.
PORTFOLIO
Brand new to my portfolio is the brand fresh-up/redesign that I was able to do for Iphepha last year!
Hannah from Iphepha makes true works of art out of every room – she is the absolute expert when it comes to walls. But see for yourself:
We’ve all been there: Christmas comes as an incredible surprise every year and you never get around to sending Christmas greetings to your dear customers.
New Year’s greetings? Actually great – but it’s already the beginning of February and almost Valentine’s Day …
And this year, Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion for me to thank my fantastic customers for their cooperation.
I love you more than lorem ispum 🤓

In Substance is the furniture label of my Mannheim-based design dudette Carolin Wanitzek-Adelmann and her husband Dennis. The two of them design great steel furniture that also functions as artistic objects. All pieces are manufactured fairly in Europe. I’ve had a crush on Stairs for a long time, and this month I finally got my hands on them!
As many people know, I am part of the Ladies, Wine & Design Mannheim designer network. We got together at the beginning of the month and planned the year. Unfortunately, there won’t be an edition of our talk format Lips Talk this summer – we just need a break to recharge our batteries. Nevertheless, there will be lots of cool Salon Nights and also some specials – if you are a Flinta designer and would like to drop by, just contact us on Insta.

As announced back in January, we’ve been cooking something! Oh boy! and I have built a landing page on which we present our branding collabo. We really enjoy working together and are very good at it 💁🏻♀️.

WHAT ELSE?
Then I randomly stumbled across this obituary for taz typesetter Georg Schmitz. It makes my heart beat faster and I would have loved to have been part of the taz in the early years. Legend has it that Georg “der Säzzer” was responsible for the use of the inline I in taz texts back in the 1970s.
Anyone who soon claims that “gender-equal language” is nonsense and a new thing: I first set text with a gender gap in a customer project in 2007 and that was no less than 18 years ago 🫠
By popular demand, I’m planning a lot more Kalle content for the march blog post. Stay tuned.
IN THE MAKING
The bike store in Mannheim’s Neckarstadt district has been around for no less than 40 years. The time has come in 2025: I’m giving the old stalwart a corporate design ✌🏻

This book is so enjoyable, I haven’t read such an enjoyable
book for a long time! It reads quickly, it paints the most beautiful pictures, it is humorous and brings out the provincial child in me. Superstition is also included. Fantastic!

As an old Brutalism fan girl, I have of course heard of it before, but an Arte documentary (which is apparently no longer online) has brought the Le Corbusier building back to my memory. I don’t know when yet, but I really want to take a short trip to the monastery near Lyon and sleep in one of the cells. Who’s coming with me?
How to deal with the results of the Bundestag election? Why did over 20% of voters opt for a far-right party? In this podcast, political scientist Julia Reischenbach provides some interesting explanations. First of all: it’s complicated. But I’d rather have a factual discussion about the present than the over-excited reactions on social media …
